Whitchurch 67 vs Malvern 10

This was a rearranged game in what was meant to be a week off and so many players were missing from the Whitchurch side. Their youthful replacements saw this as an opportunity to show how good they were. And how good were they? They were terrific! Playing with abandon against the team that were in fifth position in the league, they went ahead after only three minutes when Robbie leighton took a pass from Jack Furnival tp cross over in the corner. Minutes later he repeated the score in the opposite corner. By the fifteenth minute Whitchurch had already received a bonus point from tries by Ben Mason and Jack Furnival, both converted by James Marvell. The free scoring continued with the forwards creating territory for the slick backs to capitalise on. Tries from Marvell, Furnival and Mason, completing his hatrick, saw a half time score of 50 - Nil to the Shropshire men.

The second half began in much the same way with Furnival in majestic form terrorising the visitors and the backs making hay. A try from Isaac Wilding was converted by Marvell who shortly afterwards went off injured. A yellow card for Tom Hales caused a minor blip and Malvern pounced to score their first of the day. The Edgeley Park men struck back immediately and saw Jack Rowley, playing at second row but running like a winger, go over to extend the home side's lead. Shortly before the end, Malvern put in an extra effort and scored again from a catch and drive. Whitchurch retaliated at once and Steve Bloore scored with his usual ten pin bowling impression.  The final whistle sounded as the conversion attempt soared wide. This was a statement result and Edgeley Park look forward to the next home game next Saturday when they will be entertaining bottom club Droitwich.
