Whitchurch 17 vs Ledbury
Whitchurch began this game hoping to continue their visible improvement under coach Andy Powell. The visitors started brightly but it was the red shirts that scored first when the returning Ben Vailings made a great break and released Jake Dodwell to score th opening try. Danny Nicholas converted to give the Edgeley Park men a seven to nil scoreline. The play then went into an end to end tussle for half an hour before Luca Owens-Young exploded through the centre and pass back inside to Vailings who scored a thrilling try. Nicholas shaved the post with the conversion but Whitchurch looked comfortable at twelve nil. Their comfort was disturbed on the stroke of half time when an error in their own twenty two allowed the Cotswold men to scramble across the line for a converted try. The half time score stood at 12 – 7 to the Shropshire men.
Almost from the restart, Ledbury pressed and it was another error that allowed them to score an equalising try. The conversion was missed and Whitchurch realised that they had to get their forward motion going again. Several chances were missed before a sustained period of pressure
Mixed with some slick handling allowed Owen-Youngs to crash over to regain the lead. The visitors threw everything they could into securing a winning score but resolute tackling and fierce determination halted them.
The final score remained Seventeen points to Twelve points.
Coach Powell told his players that they were now on the right road and, with training and commitment, they could now begin to climb back up the table.
